INTERNATIONAL REMOVALS GUIDE
Moving house can be a very difficult and stressful time, no matter how far away your new location is. However, international relocation is a cut above when it comes to the stress and pressure involved in moving yourself and family to a new home. There are many things that you need to take into account before you can even think about putting your belongings into boxes, and this article will detail the key points to help make your move overseas that little bit smoother.

Insurance
If you are moving from the UK to another European country, your entitlement to medical care should be the same as that of the nationals of your destination. However, if you are moving further afield, check with your insurance companies to clarify where you stand on receiving medical care in your new country. Britain has arrangements in place with several countries regarding health care for incoming British nationals, but if your destination is not included in this list then you will need to make further arrangements.

Finances and Banking
There are a number of options available to you with regards to your money when moving abroad. It is important you understand these options to avoid losing out on exchange rates and transaction fees. It is often advised to open a bank account in your new country of residence as this protects you from the ATM fees you would incur by using a UK card in a cash machine in your new country and allows you to use a credit or debit card as freely as you would in the UK. Before making a decision on whether or not to close any UK bank accounts you may have, consider if you have any financial obligations there such as rent or bills, and the likelihood of you returning to the UK in the future.

Importation Laws
When packing all your belongings into their temporary cardboard homes, make sure you are aware of the laws regarding what you can and cannot bring into your new country. These rules differ from country to country, but there are some items that are generally banned from all nations. These include:
- Food
- Pressurised containers (deodorant, hairspray etc.)
- Pesticides, bleaches or mercury thermometres
- Inflammable materials (nail varnish, lighter fuel etc.)
- Alcohol & Tobacco
If you have prescribed medication, be sure to bring all relevant paperwork from your doctor or nurse with you to ensure you are allowed to bring it into your new country.

Inform Relevant Organisations
Make sure to inform your energy providers of your relocation, so if you are renting out your property then they are fully informed and you do not incur any unnecessary charges. All insurance companies and mortgage providers should also be informed well in advance, the latter is especially important if you are still paying the mortgage on your property in the UK. Set up a post redirection at the Post Office to ensure all mail reaches you as it should. This may require fees to be paid, and the redirection lasts for 12 months.

Above are just a few important factors that you need to consider before you make your move to a new country.
